WELSH NATIONALS AT WREXHAM APRIL 2026
Plenty of success for the club members that play at both Aberaeron and Lllandysul . On the Friday Ben Stuchbury won gold at the singles and succeeded in the final against Welsh International , Scott Mayo. On the Saturday Nigel Jones and John Carvell won gold in the over 65, 3.0 category. They won every single game and played against some opponents 7 years older. Well done to all the medal winners!
US OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
John Carvell, together with Penny Pearkes from Exeter won the Gold Medal at the US Open in Florida in April 2026. It was in the mixed doubles 3.0 in the 70-74 category. The matches were played outdoors in 30 degree plus heat. John and Penny were the only Gold medal winners from the UK and John was the sole representative from Wales and was allowed to carry the Welsh flag in the televised closing ceremony.
WEST WALES CHAMPIONSHIP
The West Wales championship tournament took place at Aberaeron on 31st January, and we witnessed some of the best players in the region competing. Aberaeron, Llandysul, Milford Haven and Dolgellau took part. and as the competition was restricted to just clubs, there was plenty of interest from other groups in the region.
The top player after 6 round-robin games for all 20 players was Joseph Stokes of Llandeilo with 64 points and Joel de Grave was a very close second with 63 points. A few of the clubs have expressed interest in hosting the event again in a few months time. Photos below show Jo Stokes and 3 of the Aberaeron team who took part.
AWAY MATCH TO LLANDYSUL
Aberaeron played the return friendly away match against Lllandysul today. There were several new players on each team, and the Aberaeron team delivered some excellent performances to secure a 14-9 victory, with one match drawn. Both Alison Lowe and Cath Walker won all their games in the women's doubles and mixed matches. Aberaeron is starting to attract some of the local club tennis players, which should strengthen the squad for the upcoming Welsh League games starting in March.

DECEMBER 2025 ROUND ROBIN TOURNAMENT
Aberaeron hosted the final round robin tournament of the year with players coming over from neighbouring clubs of Llandysul, Cardigan and Abersytwyth. The tournament was the highest standard to date with Lorenzo winning the men's section and new member Karen Taylor victorious in the women's section. Runners up were John Carvell and Alison.
Aberaeron played their first club match against Llandysul on 8th November. There were 2 teams of 10 players with 2 same gender doubles matches followed by 4 mixed doubles games. For the first 3 rounds, the scores were level but Llandysul needed to win all 4 games in the final round. The final score was 13-11 to Aberaeron. The new refurbishment was appreciated, especially the 7mm cushion floor. Thanks to Mair Harrison as the Match referee.
Great turnout for the May Tournament, given so many away. We had a new Womens winner , Gail,and it was a good evening for the septuagenarians with Ian Harrison the winner and Nigel Jones a close second. Congratulations to both worthy victors.
Aberaeron had 4 players over at the English Open, with two of the senior men playing and two of the ladies assisting with the tournament. John Carvell and Nigel Jones reached the quarter finals of the 70+ at the 3.5 level. John went on to win the Gold Medal at the 70+ singles.
